The terrible call was to call the catch in the end zone "simultaneous possession." How could that be?! Jennings is a good 8-10 inches higher than Tate, the ball is clearly IN his hands before Tate touches it - then as they go to the ground Tate grabs hold of the ball with Jennings - but Jennings already has it securely in his arms and against his chest! It was clearly Jennings' ball that Tate was attempting to steal away.
The horrendously missed call was PRIOR to the catch - where Tate, with two hands, SHOVES #37, Sam Shields, out of the way! That's what REAL refs would call "offensive pass interference" which would nullify any chance or argument for Tate catching the ball. See for yourself:

I have seen an argument that Jennings did not have "full control" with "both feet on the ground" until after Tate grabbed hold of the ball, already in Jennings' hands. It's a rather weak argument, based on the facts - but it is making some points. The other thing Jennings COULD have done to avert all controversy is instead of pulling the ball in for a catch, he COULD have just whipped it up and behind him - sending it out of bounds - it would have been "game over" and Green Bay at that point would have won. Also, the blatant non-call of offensive pass interference on Tate is not a reviewable call. So the NFL could not overturn based upon that, but it CLEARLY was offensive pass interference - and if Shields was not shoved out of position, Tate would not have been in any position to attempt to steal the ball - in fact, Shields himself may have caught it - or batted it down/away.
Anyway, the refs who could not change the game from the inside are GONE! Regular refs are back tonight. Come November, the one who claimed he could not change Washington from the inside also needs to be out of his job.
